Mom Hacks for New Moms and Experienced Moms

As a first time mom, I always love sharing mom hacks I’ve learned and heard along the way. There’s no school for new moms, so it really just comes down to moms helping each other out.

Sometimes we don’t even know that there’s a better way to do things than the way our parents taught us until we see someone else do it years later.

These simple mom tips and tricks will help you save time, money and your sanity! Hopefully, I can help you feel a little more organized and a lot more capable of keep your house running smoothly!

Mom Hacks

How to Go Shopping with Kids

When shopping with your kids, always park next to the cart return. That way, you don’t have to walk far to return your cart and drag your kids across the parking lot with you or leave them alone in the car.

How to Get Stains Out of Baby Clothes

If you have stains in your baby clothes or high chair, use the sun as a stain remover! Throw your clothes in the washing machine like normal, but don’t dry them in the dryer.

This will set stains into the clothes and make them harder to get out. Instead, lay them out to dry in the sun. It’s a free, chemical-free way to get those poop stains out!

How to Fix Loud Baby Toys

For some reason, kid and baby toys are SO loud and annoying. If you’re at the point where they’re driving you crazy, put a piece of tape right over the speaker. It’ll muffle the sound and make it so much quieter!

If you’re really desperate, you could also just take the batteries out all together.

Difficult Diaper Changes

If you’re tired of your baby rolling around during diaper changes… give them a cracker right as you lay them down to change them.

This will keep their hands and minds distracted and give you a quick window of time to change their diapers without fighting them.

Some people also give babies electric tooth brushes or something else fun to play with during diaper changes.

How to Be Prepared for Accidents and Messes On the Go

Always leave a few extra Ziploc and grocery bags in your diaper bag (and more in your car). They will come in handy for blow-outs, stained clothes, open snacks, wet clothes, etc.

How to Start the Day Feeling Productive

Use the delay function on your dishwasher or laundry machine. Set it to start early in the morning, a couple hours before you wake up.

If your machines don’t have delay functions like mine… I still load everything into the washing machine and add water and soap before going to bed. Then, I wake up and close the lid first thing in the morning.

It helps me feel productive and then I don’t have to worry about using up all the hot water during bath and shower times.

How to Prevent Moldy Bath Toys

A lot of parents don’t realize until it’s too late, but it’s super easy for bath toys to grow black mold. To prevent mold, just glue the holes on bath toys, like rubber ducks, completely shut.

You’ll be able to completely avoid black mold growth inside of them, where you wouldn’t see it unless you cut them open.

How to Entertain Your Kids for Free

Save big shipping boxes for your kids to play with. Let them use markers, pencils or stickers inside. Cut some holes in the sides to peak through. It’ll keep them entertained for hours and promote creativity!

How to Deal with Unexpected Diaper Changes

Always keep extra diapers and wipes in your car (in addition to the ones in your diaper bag). That way, you’ll have extras when you run out of the ones in the diaper bag or if you accidentally forget it somewhere.

Also, keep doggy bags in your car to put dirty diapers in. They’re way cheaper and the perfect size!

How to Wash Baby and Kid Toys

Wash baby and kids toys in the dishwasher or washing machine. You can stick them in a mesh bag to keep them together. Don’t bother spending all the time hand-washing them!

How to Keep Kids’ Closets Organized

Keep a bin in each kids’ closet. Use half of it for donations or selling on line, and the other half for your storage for the next child, etc.

How to Get a Free Breast Pump

Check with your insurance if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Most will cover a free breast pump, or at least most of it!

How to Save Money on Kids’ Clothes

Some stores, like Old Navy, sell the same styles every year. If you shop the clearance section at the end of the season, you can get an item for 75%+ off and the same item will come back the next year!

How to Declutter Your Closet

Keep an extra grocery bag in your own closet. As you’re trying on clothes for the day, you can put clothes that no longer fit or aren’t your style anymore straight into the bag to donate or sell!

How to Get the Smell Out of Musty Clothes

Sometimes, we forget our wet clothes in the laundry machine or in a wet bag for too long. Workout clothes and athletic gear tend to trap sweat and eventually smell bad, as well.

If they start to smell bad or smell musty, add about 1/2 of white vinegar to the washing machine. It’ll get the bad smell out of your clothes and towels!
