I think we can all agree that 2020 has been a weird year overall. Fortunately, it’s almost time to ring in a new year and we have so much power over how our next year feels.
Regardless of what happens around us, we always have total control over our response and our attitude. I vote that we choose to make the best of this new year!
Despite what did or didn’t happen in 2020, we can have a great 2021 and reach for high goals in our personal lives and careers. Let’s start it out on the right foot and have a fun New Year’s Eve!
Whether you’re spending the night at home with family, together with friends or just with your significant other, this list is guaranteed to set you up for a fun night!
Fun NYE Ideas:
- Watch the ball drop on tv
- Eat 12 grapes conscientiously at midnight, one for each month of the year (Spanish tradition)
- Have a photo booth or balloon wall with fun props from dollar store, Hobby Lobby or Michael’s
- Take turns smashing a peppermint pig and eating a small piece for good luck (New York tradition)
- Pick an action word to focus on for your growth in the next year (ie – assert, serve, learn, etc.)
- Smash glass plates, even cheap ones from the Dollar store (Danish tradition)
- Kiss someone you love at midnight
- Take an empty suitcase and run around the block as quickly as you can to guarantee a year of travel (according to Colombian tradition)
- Wear colored underwear: red for passion and love, white for peace and yellow for luck and financial success (Latin American tradition)
- Have sparklers and noisemakers
- Make a goal jar. Have everyone write down one big goal to focus on in the next year and store it in the jar to read at the end of the year.
- Dress up in fancy, sparkly outfits
- Write down what you want to leave behind from the current year and burn it
- Play party games
- Have a dance party
- Have a 20’s themed night
- Play NYE Bingo
- NYE White Elephant

- Have a piñata
- Personalized Memory Game
- Play 2 Truths and a Lie, but replace them with resolutions for the next year (two real ones and one fake one)
- Play charades with words, phrases and media related to the previous year
