Top 5 Things That Every Mom Always Needs For Survival
On April 30, 2021 by Megan FolsomMotherhood is HARD. We make a lot of sacrifices, because we love those tiny humans so dang much. Unfortunately, a lot of those sacrifices have to do with our time spent on self-care. Sometimes it feels like we are just in survival mode and doing our best to stay afloat.
I have a small list of absolute mom must-haves to survive the busyness, stress and overwhelm of motherhood. They solve some of our most common and frequent problems and just make life EASIER, which is what we all really want anyway, right?!
An Insulated Water Bottle
Let’s be real… getting enough water in each day feels nearly impossible. Whether you are breastfeeding your baby, chasing after toddlers or running your kids around to practices, drinking enough water is non-negotiable!
Personally, I know that I feel terrible by the afternoon if I haven’t had enough water yet. I end up with migraines, I’m way more hungry and I feel depleted.
Interestingly, I have found ONE thing that has totally saved my butt, though… a GOOD water bottle. Not just an average water bottle, but one that is sturdy and keeps my drinks ICE cold all day long. You NEED to have a good, insulated water bottle to carry around with you.
They come in handy for more than just water, too. A lot of people use them to keep their tea and coffee hot in the morning or to keep soda cold throughout the day. I usually just use mine for water, but I love adding some good flavor packets to make it easier to get my water in for the day.
Sometimes I just add some ice and fresh lemon juice to my water. Most of the time, I either add some True Lemon flavor, or my favorite LiquidIV flavors, (Guava, Passion Fruit or Acai Berry). You can always use my code to get 25% off your entire LiquidIV order and free shipping (Code: megan.folsom)!
My TOP choice is definitely my Yeti tumbler; I’ve had it for years and it’s still in perfect condition. Additionally, I’d definitely recommend getting the straw lid option below to switch out. For some reason, I drink more when it’s a straw sitting next to me and I don’t have to constantly open and close a mouthpiece.
I linked other top-rated insulated water bottles that have been recommended to me, too, and have amazing reviews on Amazon. You can’t go wrong with any of these options, and they’d be great gifts for Mother’s Day or Christmas!
Hats
A good hat can work wonders. It can completely finish a look off and level up your look (especially if you add some cute earrings or necklaces)!
Even better, it can completely turn a bad hair day around. We all know, once you have kids, it takes 5 times longer to get ready to leave the house. If you’re anything like me, you probably get your little kids ready before you get ready. That means that when I’m running late, which – let’s be real – is pretty much always… I spend the least amount of time getting myself ready.
Having a few hats handy to pick from can save the day! They can cover dirty hair, they can complete your look and they can protect you from the sun, what’s not to love?!
I’ve linked a few of my personal favorites that I always grab to throw on as I run out the door.
A Good Bag
As a mom, we have so. much. CRAP. We’re always in charge of carrying everything around for everyone and we have to be prepared for all of the things. When we have littles, we especially have a lot of things to keep track of and keep on hand.
A good bag is DEFINITELY worth the splurge and investment, in my opinion. When I was pregnant, I watched for sales on the bags I knew I wanted most. I’ve had them for over two years and they are still as good as new, because they are such high quality.
If you choose carefully, you’ll be able to have a cute, stylish bag that will match with pretty much any outfit you could wear! They add such a cute touch to any outfit and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.
A Camera
You’ll never look back and regret taking too many pictures, but you definitely might look back and regret not taking enough. The memories behind pictures and videos are irreplaceable.
For Christmas a couple of years ago, we bought ourselves a nice camera and I haven’t regretted it once. I could spend hours looking through old pictures and remembering all of the stories behind them.
To be honest, you don’t NEED a dslr, or super fancy camera. A phone can take good pictures, too, and it’s probably almost always within six feet of you. I do love the quality of the pictures on my other camera though, and it has been easy to figure out.
We bought it in a kit for a great price and added a few extra accessories. It’s worked out great for us as a starter camera, and we look forward to leveling up in the future to a more advanced camera.
Dry Shampoo
To be honest, the amount of time it takes to wash and re-style your hair frequently is exhausting. Especially when you’re running on little sleep or always busy with kids and errands. Dry shampoo will SAVE you. I truly don’t understand how any women survive in the day and age without it.
I have linked my two favorite, affordable dry shampoo options at drugstore price, as well as my top higher-end dry shampoo. Also, I always have some extra on hand, so that I NEVER run out! When in a pinch, you could also get away with using some corn starch or baby powder too, but I don’t love the gritty feeling in my hair.
