How Amazon Subscribe and Save Works & the Best Essentials
On June 9, 2021 by Megan FolsomI’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… We love shopping at Amazon at our house. It’s a lifesaver for the busy mom life and we use Amazon Prime Subscribe and Save program MONTHLY.
Their program has saved us so much money over the last few years. Honestly, I have price-shopped their prices on common things like toilet paper versus the regular grocery store.
Before adding it to our Subscribe and Save, I make sure I won’t be losing money. The prices are aways comparable and often cheaper, even before adding the additional discount.
Plus, Amazon Prime has saved my sanity and prevented us from running out of things we need on hand. By taking the mental responsibilities off my plate of remembering to order and restock items, I have so much less stress.
Here’s a breakdown of how it works, what kind of discount you can expect and our favorite subscription items!
How Amazon Subscribe and Save Works
Amazon has specific items that are available for Prime member to subscribe for. Not every item is eligible, but there are a LOT of subscribe-able options.
First, you can select how often you’d like to receive the item. The options are: every 1 through 7 weeks or ever 1 through 6 months. In other words, you could have an item set to come ever 3 weeks, every 5 weeks, ever 2 months, etc.
You can also receive the item in multiples. For example, you could get two packs of toilet paper every two weeks, if your family goes through a lot.
You’ll have a specific Prime delivery day each month. For example, my Prime delivery day is the 2nd of every month. However, this just means that my items will be delivered by or BEFORE that day, not ON that day.
You can cancel, skip or change your subscription at any time before the deadline each month! (There’s a deadline a few days before your delivery day.)
The Discount
The discount offered for the “Save” part of “Subscribe and Save” varies per item. Some items offer a higher discount and if you order five or more Subscribe and Save items monthly, your savings are higher.
If you only have one item coming that month, you get minimal savings. Usually this is 5% per item, but occasionally it’s 0%.
On the other hand, if you order 5 or more items per month, your savings are general 15% or 20% per item, but occasionally only 5%.
Your savings will be determined on a month-by-month basis, so you might reach maximum savings this month by having 6 items delivered. Next month, it will only give you the minimum savings if you have only 2 items being delivered.
When you see a subscribe and save item on Amazon, it will let you know the savings amount before you subscribe. See the picture below:
To be honest, I didn’t even realize how many things were available for Subscribe and Save until we were searching for more items to reach the required 5 per month for maximum savings. It’s much easier than I thought to reach the max savings, especially if I move a couple things around to come a month early sometimes.
