Amazing Bath Time Accessories and Must-Haves for Babies and Toddlers
On March 23, 2021 by Megan FolsomBath time with babies and toddlers is one of those things that you want to be prepared for. Unfortunately, for obvious safety reasons, you can’t just pop out of the bathroom to grab things you need once the bath has already started.
Baths a great sensory and entertainment opportunity, so I always make sure to have a few toys for my son to play around with in the water.
While baths are necessary for hygiene reasons, they are also total life-savers for fussy babies and for bored or cranky toddlers! (Luckily for you, I do have a lot of other fun ideas on my website, like free toddler field trips, the best outdoor activities for kids & toddlers, and Montessori treasure baskets!)
As my son has grown, he’s grown out of some of the infant gear and grown into the toys and messes, but I will include links for both stages of bath time gear! These are our baby bath time essentials and other items that help tub time go more smoothly.
Bath Time Must-Haves and Accessories
Bath Mats:
These have been game-changers for us; it can be really hard on your body to always be on your arms and knees hanging over a bath tub. We have both a bath kneeler for our knees and an armrest for the ledge of the tub. Fortunately, we haven’t had any issues yet with must or mold with them.
Toys
Over the past year or so, we’ve found several toys that have done really well in the tub with water. We’ve avoided the rubber ducky type toys that then to trap water and grow mold on the inside. Trussler has liked using stacking cups that have different shapes and holes cut out of the bottom.
Toy Storage
We have loved this mesh basket for holding toys that suctions onto our shower wall. I love that I can just scoop all of the toys straight out of the water with the basket, since it’s removable from the base and has a handle. Before we got it, the toys were always just in the way or falling off the ledge of the tub. Now, they take up hardly any space, are in one place and completely dry out between baths.
Towels
We had a few hooded baby towels for the infant and baby stages, and we loved ones that were soft and organic – only the best for that soft newborn skin. Now that Trussler is a Toddler, he’s too big for those towels and uses one of our regular-sized towels!
Wash Clothes
Just like towels, we also opted for soft, organic wash clothes. We still use the same ones for him now that he’s a toddler. These ones are larger than the average infant wash cloth and are two-sided with terry and then muslin-like material. (They actually market them as being great for removing makeup on your face too, so you KNOW they’ll be super soft).
Cradle Cap Brush
This SkinSoother brush is a must-have for babies, especially during that awkward period of cradle cap, flaky scalp and dry skin. It’s made out of silicone, and totally antibacterial. Plus, it has little suctions on the back to stick to the shower wall and dry out AND it comes with a to-go case!
Spout Cover
There are a few different options of these, some cuter or more minimalist than others. Mostly, these help with safety and prevent your little from slipping or tripping and hitting their head on the spout. Some of them are designed to be easily removed and used to pour water over their heads to rinse shampoo out too.
Skin and Haircare
Honestly, skin products were one of the most important things for me to learn about and make sure to choose carefully. It’s our biggest organ and there are so many products that aren’t the best to absorb into our skin. We decided to go with Tubby Todd for both our lotion, sunscreen and shampoo / body wash combination.
Trussler has pretty dry skin and eczema, so it’s really important to have synthetic fragrance-free products and to use them as soon as he’s out of the bath. You can get 10% off of all of your orders on their website.
Hair Brush
We’ve loved this brush set with two different brushes and a comb for different stages. One of them is super soft, which was perfect for the newborn stage!
Infant Bathtub
For the newborn and baby stage, we used a bathtub that can be used in four different stages. Plus, it comes with a squeeze bottle that we still use and a cute whale scoop that we still use as a bath toy. If you’re looking for something smaller and more minimalist, there’s a great baby support seat option.
